COLORADO PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT STATISTICS

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, pedestrian deaths from traffic crashes in the United States are at a 30-year high. And while Colorado is not among the Top 10 or even Top 20 states for the most pedestrian/motor vehicle accidents in the country, it still has its fair share of serious injuries and fatalities as a result of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian. Colorado ranked #33 in 2019 (latest data available).

Between January 1 and April 18, 2022, Denver alone has seen ninety-three (93) auto/pedestrian accidents resulting in serious bodily injuries. And sadly, during this time period, an additional fifteen (15) people lost their lives when struck by a vehicle while walking in Denver. Last year there were ninety-one pedestrian fatalities in Colorado: more than 13% of all Colorado roadway fatalities.

In 2020, motor-vehicle crashes with pedestrian fatalities were the second leading cause of preventable deaths in the United States. Pedestrians are the most vulnerable roadway users. Visibility sharply declines in the evenings and at night, so it is no surprise that most pedestrian/vehicle collisions happen in the evening or during low-light conditions.

With numbers like these, the chances of you or a loved one being a victim of a pedestrian/vehicle collision are high. All car accidents have the potential to result in serious injuries, but none more so than a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian. Without any protection to the body, even the smallest impact from a vehicle can cause significant, even life-changing injuries, or even death. If you or a loved one has been a victim of a pedestrian/vehicle collision, you should seek legal advice to understand your rights to recover the compensation you deserve.
